Seminar on Loktak starts

A two day seminar on 'Loktak in the History and Memory of Manipur' has started at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahlaya (IGRMS) Cultural Interpretation Centre at Khoirentak Khuman, Churachandpur district.
Organised by the Cultural Interpretation Centre, Manipur, the inauguration of the seminar was attended by Director IGRMS Bhopal Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, National Tagore Fellow Prof Kishor K Basa, former Secy to Governor of Manipur retd IAS Dr RK Nimai Singh and former Director Art & Culture Dr Keisam Sobita Devi as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri said that the seminar is being organised to understand the significance of the Loktak Lake and its environment in the history of the State.
The seminar will also exposed the ecological and cultural heritage associated with the Lake to the mainland India so as to bring National integration, he said.
The seminar will highlight the unbreakable bond between the valley and hill people of the State, he said.
25 delegates including 3 from outside the State are attending the seminar.
Various resource persons gave presentations on Cosmogony of Loktak Lake, Orature around Loktak and Moirang, Loktak Lake in the oral literature of Manipur, Folklore and oral history of Loktak Lake in consolidating the cultural heritage of Manipur, Freshwater fishes of Loktak Lake - Past and present, Species diversity and population of ducks and gees of Loktak Ramsar in Manipur, India, Water birds conservation dilemma- A case study of Loktak Lake, An empirical review of deer on the Phumdi, Loktak Lake as seen through the history data, Examining entomophagy again : An insight from Loushi Pat wetland a once associated Lake of Loktak and A review of practices and policies on contemporary issue of Loktak Lake of Manipur etc.
