Imphal, July 02 2013:
Pressing the authority to streamline the functioning of Manipur University (MU), teachers of the varsity have geared up to a launch series of agitation against the MU authority.
Pointing out that the institute is being run on ad-hoc basis, centralizing all the powers in an autocratic manner by destroying all the democratic norms as there is no statutory officers on regular basis, MUTA has demanded to appoint statutory posts such as Pro Vice-Chancellor; Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations as well as other officers such as Directors Academic Staff College; Director; College Development Council etc which are lying vacant for more than two years now.
At present, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity is looking after the office of the Finance Officer and there is ample room for misappropriation of funds as he himself sanctions and signs cheques as Finance Officer, MUTA contended in a statement.
While highlighting alleged manipulation in the selection of 3 (three) teachers in the 3rd Executive Council of MU, MUTA has also demanded to implement HAG scale, long pending scheme for senior professors and holding of selection committee meeting for promotion of faculty members, etc.
