Imphal, March 02 2024:
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) has hailed the members of Manipur Legislative Assembly for adopting a resolution to abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki armed groups and implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), in the second and third sittings of the ongoing fifth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly respectively.
In a statement released by its secretary (Information and Public Relation), FOCS expressed firm belief that the central government would uphold the resolutions adopted by the state assembly.
Both the Home Ministry and Defence Ministry are well aware of how the Kuki militants are threatening the integrity of Manipur and attacking the Meetei community.
It is the need of the hour to put an end to the dream of illegal Chin-Kuki groups from Myanmar to disintegrate Manipur and establish a 'Zalengam' nation.
Furthermore, the central government needs to be sincere in its approach towards handling this demographic imbalance and initiate strict action against those threatening the territorial integrity of the country.
FOCS also expressed confidence that the central government would honour the Manipur Legislative,Assembly's resolution to implement NRC in the state for identifying and deporting illegal immigrants.
With regard to the joint statement of the 10 Kuki MLAs urging the union home minister not to abrogate SoO, the Federation termed it as unfortunate, adding that the reason behind the objection is that it will affect their plans and interests.
As such, they wrote a letter with many falsified information.
The Federation then appealed to both the state forces and village volunteers to prevent miscommunication or misunderstandings, and instead work together to defend against all threats.
