Kangpokpi, December 01 2024:
After days of mounting tension and widespread agitation, the lifeline road connecting Churachandpur and Sadar Hills is set to reopen tomorrow.
This decision follows after a resolute protest by the Kuki-Zo community against its abrupt closure by the Army in Leimakhong after an MES employee went missing on November 25.The closure of the road sparked an outcry, with the Kuki-Zo people staging demonstrations on November 30 demanding immediate reopening of their sole accessible route.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), which spearheaded the protests, described the Army's blockade as an attack on the Kuki-Zo people's right to free movement and livelihood.
"This road is not just a route, it is our lifeline," CoTU stated, echoing the sentiments of many affected by the disruption.
CoTU also acknowledged the support of the Sadar Hills community, emphasizing the critical role of the public pressure in bringing the authorities to the negotiating table.
