Cong says Govindas' entry ominous for BJP
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, August 01 2021: Remarking that former Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Govindas Konthoujam's entry to BJP should not be taken lightly, MPCC interim president N Loken has stated that situation is similar to the dangerous scenario of two tigers inhabiting in a single territory.

Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhawan here on Sunday, Loken said that the present political changes in the state could be interpreted in Court lingua as having completed all of the hearing processes and the judgment reserved for the first week of March, 2022."The BJP government, since its advent, has been facing numerous crisis situations including demand for leadership changes which continue to remain unsolved till date.

Although Govindas joined BJP on Sunday, neither he nor the CM demonstrated joy on their faces.

Thus, Govindas, who had been MPCC president and a minister multiple times in the past, cannot have joined the saffron party without a reason.

The scene is almost like the dangerous coexistence of two tigers, in a single territory or like a snake slithering under the bed", he contended.

Remarking that another judgment would soon be witnessed in August, the interim Congress president revealed that some BJP MLAs have contacted him with request for contesting the upcoming polls on INC ticket.

Some time ago, 3 BJP MLAs resigned from the party, unable to bear the hypocrisy and other issues, he added.

Loken continued: "The elections in 2022 would likely be held between February and March.

The present state BJP-led coalition government was not formed on absolute majority but in violation of the Constitution of India.

However, BJP will no longer have any allied parties after the 2022 polls as its elected MLAs are mostly looking out for their selfish interests".

"Presently, only 16 out of 28 winning Congress MLAs are left in the party.

Twelve MLAs who had defected from the party have been suspended for anti-party activities, while 11 have joined BJP.

The remaining MLAs have no intention of joining BJP and are rather pleased with the departure of Govindas, as the previous strife and groupism have disappeared along with him (Govindas).

Congress is now moving forward in a much more united matter", he remarked.

Loken then commented that it is not good for the CM to travel indiscriminately amidst the pandemic.

Furthermore, the notion that more Congress MLAs will be elected and the party will obtain absolute majority is not inaccurate, as the election result will rightly prove.

Congress is now working with other like-minded political parties to defeat BJP in the 2022 polls, he added.

Talking about the ex-party president, Loken recalled that Govindas submitted his resignation from the MPCC president post on July 19.Shortly after, he resigned from the primary membership of the party and the MLA seat.

Although Govindas along with two other MLAs had talked to the media of joining BJP, he was the only one who was welcomed to BJP on Sunday.

It was initially believed that he would be welcomed by the former BJP national president and Amit Shah but on Sunday, the guests at the reception function consisted of CM Biren, 2 MPs and Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, he observed.

"Imagination is a wonderful thing considering the CM had announced that 3 Congress MLAs would be joining BJP when Govindas was the only one who embraced ideology of the saffron party.

The BJP government under PM Modi is now eight years old but the people are well aware of its governance, taking into account of the government's inability to conduct sessions in the parliament.

The economy is in shambles while the people are unable to bear the rising prices of petrol.

Meanwhile, the people of Manipur are well aware of the capability of the state BJP government with regard to development works, particularly its inability to take up new projects or complete the pending projects of the previous Congress government", the interim president said.

"Additionally, respecting freedom of speech of media is important for good governance.

Instead, the government has been misusing its power to gag the media and suppressing all dissenting voices with threats of jail time.

The voices of the people indicate whether a government is good or not but the people are afraid of voicing their opinions due to fear of getting arrested Meanwhile, the government is the only one proclaiming itself to be a good government", he added.
