5-day World Environment Day observance commences

Bibatsu Foundation Manipur and Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) jointly kicked off the 5-day long observance of World Environment Day at Wangjing Canteen Lampak today by organising a painting competition.
The 5-day long observance will be held across various localities of Thoubal district till June 5 under the theme of "Only One Earth" .
N Munal Meitei, Asst Conservator of Forest, Chandel Forest Division; M Biren, Range Officer, Yangoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary, Moreh; Md Sallaodin, Beat Officer, Pallel Forest Beat Office; H Priyokumar, president, CADA Manipur; N Rajivkumar, Principal, RE Group of Institutions and M (O) Memma, environmental activist graced the event as presidium members.
Students from various schools in Thoubal district participated in the painting competition.
Following this, prizes were distributed to the top 10 winners.
Aside from this, tree saplings were also planted in the surrounding areas of Wangjing Canteen Lampak.
Speaking as the chief guest, Naorem Munal shared that "Only One Earth" was the theme at the first ever World Environment Day observance and called it momentous that the same theme was being used after 50 years.
He stressed on the deforestation of hill areas and appealed to the valley and hill dwellers to come together in saving the environment.
Ksh Premdash, secretary, Bibatsu Foundation shared that the event had been actualised with the support of Unified Rural Development Org, Aquila Academy, Oja Bijoy Book Store and WBCC.
