Imphal, November 30 2020:
Expressing concern over the large scale deaths of pigs and piglets in the State, the Piggery Progressive Farmers' Association (PPFA) has urged the department concerned to initiate necessary actions instead of indulging in blame game.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club (MPC) today, president of PPFA, Khundongbam Ranbir Meitei stated that other States perform better when it comes to taking up preparatory measures of any outbreak.
Apart from taking up prompt actions, pig rearers in other States are well compensated whenever a situation like this arises, he added.
Member of the association, Lokendro stated that the report published in some dailies that the dead pigs were not vaccinated is false.
All the pigs and piglets were vaccinated three months earlier, he added.
He also claimed that sick pigs cannot be inoculated as it often kills them.
Instead of playing blame game, it is time for the department concerned to probe the mass deaths of pigs to start taking up precautions, said Lokendra.
Saying that he hasn't seen any ailment like this in the past, the pig farmer contended that the disease which killed several pigs and piglets in the State might have been imported from Moreh side.
Contending that there would be no department if all animal rearers run out of business, Lokendra asserted that working together is crucial instead of verbal duels to solve the crisis.
