NESO demands special constitutional status for NE

Pointing out that the Government of India is exploiting the NE region for the past six decades, the North East Students' Organization, NESO has strongly asserted for a special constitutional status for the region with right over land and natural resources.
In an interview with Prime News at the 5th General Conference of the NESO in Kohima, NESO Chairman, Sammujal Bhattacharyya said that the centre is exploiting the rich natural resources of the north region but the benefits are never given to the region.
Bhattacharyya said the centre is now eyeing even the water resources of the region and strongly warned that NESO will not allow any mega dam in the region.
Bhattacharjya also informed that the NESO will adopt a northeast-centric approach to face the threats confronting the culture and identity of the indigenous people of northeast region.
He asserted that the government of India must adopt a comprehensive and effective measure to evict illegal foreigners and fundamentalist groups from the region.
The NESO also demanded that Centre must repeal the AFSPA immediately.
The apex students' organization quoting reliable research pointed out that brain drain and lack of good technical institutes in the region is causing immense lose to the tune of hundreds of crores of rupees.
The organization demanded the Centre to treat the NE a special employment zone so that qualified youth from the northeast could avail various central jobs.
