The tarung-like traffic island carved in with cultural motifs in various colours was installed with the help of local sculptors.
More of such projects are being put in line at different strategic locations in the town.
Hrisheekesh lauded the effort of the Ukhrul traffic police and appreciated the innovative system hinting on the design and space management of the structure.
Traffic officer in-charge H.Yangmi said the indigenous traffic island in the form of Tangkhul tarung is arguably the first one installed universally.

The motifs engraved in the pole comprise, spears, human and animal heads among others.
The indigenous traffic island appears to have strong technical merits with the pole made of seasoned teak wood and occupies a small space on a narrow street of Ukhrul town.
With increasing vehicles in the district headquarters, the installation of new traffic island would go a long way in traffic regulation.
The town has otherwise been witnessing a busy vehicular movement and increasing road accident.
The new traffic island has definitely added an indigenous look in Ukhrul townall thanks to Ukhrul traffic police.
