Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen takes over Red Shield Division

Imphal, June 30 2011:
Major General Binoy Poonnen, VSM took over the charge of General Officer Commanding (GOC) Red Shield Division at Leimakhong from Major General Hooda, AVSM, VSM** in a function held at Leimakhong today.
Major General DS Hooda was a successful GOC in overseeing the ongoing counter insurgency operations in the state and South Assam.He was instrumental in getting a large number of Military Civic Action Projects sanctioned and executed in the most far flung areas of the two region.
He wished the people of Manipur success and prosperity and he also expressed his belief that peace would prevail in the state soon.
On the other hand, Major General Binoy Poonnen, VSM is a highly decorated infantry officer with varied experience both in Indian and abroad, alumnus of Officers Training Academy, Chennai and was commissioned into the 13 battalion of MAHAR Regiment.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Army and the Nation, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal while commanding a Mountain Brigade.
He came from Delhi where he was posted at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army).
He assured maintenance or harmony between the Army, the administration and the people of the state.
He also extended his good wishes to the people of the state during his speech as the new GOC of 57 Mountain Division.
