World No Tobacco Day observed in state

Imphal, May 31 2011:
On the occasion of World no Tobacco Day today, cadets of NCC today carried out a cycle rally with the call for a tobacco free society and spreading the message on the evils of the tobacco use.
The rally participated by around 100 cadres was flagged off by Lt Col SK Sapam, Commanding Officer 14 Manipur Bn NCC, Imphal from the western gate of DM College and after reaching at Manipur Public School, Koirengei where they turned back to the originating point.
Placards with slogans, "Tobacco is a silent killer, Your smoking kills babies, smoking causes cancer, Tobacco causes painful deaths, You smoke I suffer," etc.
were displayed during the rally.
The AMADA in association with Bridge of Hope (BOH) Tuition Centre, Thanga Lawai organized an academic awareness programme on "Prevention of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" at the tuition centre.
Many resource persons talked on the evils of the drug abuse and harmful effects of using tobacco.
The awareness programme was followed by a rally.
Around 500 people of Thanga Lawai and its surrounding villages participated in the rally.
