Many welfare activities for farmers underway, says Agri Director

Informing that the Agriculture Department is all set to take up certain initiatives for agriculture, including mass sensitization programmes and soil testing campaign in the State in the coming year, Agriculture Director Ph Rajendra has appealed the people of the State, particularly the farmers, to take the benefits of the initiatives to enhance agricultural sector in the State.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of an inspection visit at Sangaithel Loukon where mustard plantation has been done in a large scale by United Farmers Association, Imphal West under the sponsorship of the Agriculture Department, under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKW) 2018-19, Rajendra asserted that the Agriculture Department is planning to produce ample amount of mustard oil in the State by extracting them from the mustard plants which are being cultivated in different parts of the State under RKW.

He went on to state that the Agriculture Department is also planning to provide five bee boxes per one pari of land where mustard plant cultivation is being done, as bees increase the productivity of mustard plants.
Further statirfg that 10 bee boxes will be given to every 10 clusters of farmers at subsidized rate, he said that the total clusters of farmers targeting to cover is 26.He also asked all the interested farmers' clusters to inform the Agriculture Department if they are interested in procuring bee-boxes at subsidized rates.
The Director added that the targeted land for mustard plant cultivation/plantation under Rabi Campaign 2018-19 has been lower this year due to lack of water.
Many Agriculture Officers have also participated at the inspection visit.
