Ukhrul DC inaugurates Tangkhul Beads

Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Kengoo Zuringla inaugurated a new commercial outlet called Tangkhul Beads at Phungreitang in Ukhrul town on Tuesday.
The newly inaugurated emporium deals in traditional Tangkhul ornaments and is owned by ornament designers Pamchuiwon Kasak, Mashunphu Kasak and Soreila Awungshi.
They have handcrafted a rich array of traditional Tangkhul ornaments including Kongsang (necklaces, headgears), Kazao (bangles), Zeithing, earrings, crowns and other traditional accessories.
The inauguration programme began with invocation prayer by UTBC Pastor Rev Somi Kasomwoshi in the presence of former Aja Daily editor Valleyrose Hungyo; Manager, Yaruihor Hungyo, Tangkhul Leisak Long president Ramyo Raingam; general secretary Ngathingpam Ronrei; promoter Ngaraipam and Katho Katamnao Long president Mashungmi Zingkhai, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Kengoo Zuringla stressed on the importance of such outlets in celebrating the rich heritage of Tangkhul ornaments.
"The diverse range of Tangkhul jewelry items available not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also strengthens a sense of identity and our traditions", she asserted.
Stating that each item carries it's own significance to Tangkhul history, she remarked that the piece she was wearing today has its own story, which in turn, adds intrinsic value to these ornaments.
DC Kengoo Zuringla elaborated, "By embracing these items, we are revisiting our past while simultaneously rediscovering the values held by our ancestors when they adorned themselves with these beads" .
