Imphal, December 28 2013 :
President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has categorically stated that the defeat of Congress Party in the recent assembly elections of Delhi and three other states was due to communication gap among the leaders and not because of the party becoming weak.
He was speaking during the 128th foundation day of Indian National Congress (INC) organized by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee at Congress Bhavan here today.
Gaikhangam further said that the northeastern states are the stronghold of Congress Party.
The debacle faced by the Congress leaders in other states would not affect the party in the State.
The State Congress leaders are working closely for the development and welfare of the people, he noted.

Deputy CM maintained that the Congress workers need to carry out campaigns to make people aware of various schemes and programmes being taken by the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
The constructive role of opposition parties must be appreciated, but sometimes the Government has to clarify to the people of various unfounded allegations made by the Opposition, he contended.
Gaikhangam further said that the history of India would be incomplete without the history of Indian National Congress.
The Congress leaders have been associated with the common people right from the period of freedom struggle.
They are devoted to the development and welfare of the people.
Secretary of AICC, Northeast in-charge Dr Vijayalakshmi Sadho, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, MP Dr T Meinya, MLA T Mangibabu and other Congress leaders also spoke during the occasion.
The Congress workers also paid floral tribute and observed two-minute silence to honour the departed leaders.
The veteran Congress workers of the State were also honoured during the foundation day.
