ILP Demand: 6 students hurt, 5 more women picked up

There has been no let up to the confrontation between the police and the protestors over the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State.
At least six students mostly girls who were taking part in a protest rally demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, were hurt in tear gas shelling by Bishnupur police at Bishnupur Bazar today.
The injured students have been identified as Sorokhaibam Linthoinganbi (16) d/o (L) S Palesh of Bishnupur Ward no 4; Chanambam Gayatri (14) d/o Ch Khamba of Bishnupur Ward no 5; Luwangbam Surbala (13) d/o L Iboyaima of Bishnupur Thiyam Leikai; Wairokpam Anju (18) d/o W Radheshyam of Phubala; Moirangthem Thoibi (15) d/o M Loken of Khwairakpam Lamkhai and Khangembam Shanta (19) s/o Kh Sunil of Bishnupur Ward no 4 .

All the injured students are undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital.
The students were trying to march till the office of the deputy commissioner when the police fired tear gas shells and rubber bullet to disperse them.
In Kakching bazar in Thoubal district, students of the area alsotook out a mass rally to demand implementation of the Inner Line Permit in Manipur.
On the other hand, five more women have been reportedly picked up by police as the women folk and the police confronted today in Imphal market over the demand for implementation of ILP in the State.
A large number of women tried to stage a sit-in to press the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit in Manipur in the heart of Imphal today where prohibitions under Section 144 of the CrPC is being clamped.
Charging of violating the prohibition Act, the police foiled the sit-in-protest.
In the process there was a big melee between the women and the police and it resulted in the picking up of 5 women.
These women are now in the custody of city police station.
Mass sit-in protests were also staged in different parts of the four valley districts over same demand.
The protestors used placards reading, "All the 60 MLAs should resign for the failure to implement the ILP in Manipur," "An act should be made to protect the indigenous people and their lands.", etc.
Meanwhile, altogether five persons who were arrested by Porompat Police while staging protest in connection with the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System from Lamlong Bazar on July 27 were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East today.
Charges were framed against them under U/S 147/149/355 IPC which is bailable offences.
They were released after their advocates gave surety bond to the court.
The five persons are Soyam Boy (27) of Khurai Kongpal Thongam Leikai; Senjam Inaochabi (18) of Khurai Chingabam Leirak; Haorungbam Sanjoy (20) of Khurai Chingabam Leirak; Kangjam Bishowjit (20) of Khurai Kongpal Khongkham Leikai and Thongam Sanjeet Singh (20) of Khurai Sajor Leikai.
