Thoubal, February 28 2016:
Sports industry, like many other industries, has rapidly
transformed in the past decades.
As such, society should no
longer confine women to the household chores alone but
encourage them to go out and participate in sports and such other
activities, MLA K Ranjit has stated.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a Social
Welfare Club at Cherapur under Khangabok A/C today.
Attending as chief guest, MLA K Ranjit said, the world
has changed remarkably.
Countries no longer wage war to
conquer another country, instead they seek to overtake
others through sports.
Internationally acclaimed boxers MC Mary Kom and
Sarita are both women.
The masses should change their
mindset regarding the role of women in a society.
Instead
of confining them to the household chores, women should
be encouraged to take part in sports and such other activity,
the MLA added.
Functional president Khangabok A/C MLA Okram
Landhoni advocated that education and sports must go
together.
International weightlifting champion Sorokhaibam Nanao
was also felicitated at the function.
The club donated Rs 10,000 to the Chief Minister's
Relief Fund to aid the January 4 earthquake victims.
