Drug Smuggling: MR man among 5 held

In yet another major drug haul by Thoubal District Police , five persons including one Jemandar of 8 Manipur Rifles have been arrested alongwith a huge quantity of banned drugs yesterday along NH-102 (Imphal Moreh road) at Usoipokpi Chaobok Lamkai under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district yesterday.
Briefing media persons in this regard today, Dr.Ak Jhalajit Singh, SP of Thoubal district, said that at around 7.30 pm yesterday, a police team of Thoubal District under the command O.Tomba saw two vehicles, Maruti Gypsy (Hard top) bearing registration no.MN01X- 4234 and ikon Car being registration no.MNO70-0275, parking closely in a suspicious manner and transferring some bags from one vehicle to another.
The police team was alerted and while searching the vehicles, 6 airbags containing banned drugs which contain pseudoephedrine were found inside.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jemandar Hollal Haokip (41), JC no.605 of 8 MR, S/o Tongkholen Haokip of Chassad Avenue, Imphal presently posted at UBI Bank, Moreh; Lunminthang alias Lulun (27) S/o (L) Paolet Haokip of Moreh Canaan Veng; Vahkim Haokip alias Kim (36) W/o (L) Thongkholet Haokip of Pallel Kotlenphai but presently staying at Checkon Imphal; Chinchin Haokip (46) W/o (L) Jamon Haokip of Kotlenphai Khunou and Jangkhosei Bolsom alias Seiboy alias Hesei (22) S/o Lhunkholet alias Lelet of Moreh ward no.1, Khonomphai.
The seizure of the items which included Brumet (12 X 1880 strips of 10 tablets each), Polyfed-C (14X 1880 strips of 10 tablets each) and 78 packets of 10,000 suspected pseudoephedrine loose tablets, thus, totalling 1268800 tablets were made in the presence of witnesses after preparing a formal seizure memo.
The approximate value of the seizure is estimated to be around Rs 20 crores in the international market.
Besides, this Rs 1 lakh in cash was also seized from the possession of the arrested persons.
On preliminary interrogation, they disclosed that the said drugs were handed over to them by one Md.Nanao of Lilong Makha Leikai along NH-102 to be transported to Myanmar.
Meanwhile, the alleged drug traffickers were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal and they have been remanded to police custody for nine days today.
It may be recalled that Thoubal Police have seized huge consignment of banned psychotropic drugs on several occasions in the recent past including the sensational Pallel drug case in which the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Press Bureau of Information (PIB)/Defense Wing, Imphal Col Ajay Choudhury and six other persons including Congress MLA TN Haokip's son Seikholen Haokip were involved.
Above all, many security personnel were also arrested by Thoubal Police while attempting to smuggle the pseudoephedrine tablets to Myanmar through Imphal-Moreh Road.
