3 child traffickers arrested

Imphal, July 27 2011:
A team of Porompat Police team led by OC Geetchandra last night arrested three non Manipuri child traffickers including a couple from Mahabali Kabui village, Imphal near Mahabir Mandir.
The trio were identified as Nandu Vaid (35) his wife Tamatar (35) and another woman associate Phulkumar Vaid.
All three persons were natives of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.
They brought in nine children under the age of 12 years including a six month old baby into the state.
Imphal West District Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Mangsatabam Ali told Hueiyen Lanpao that the children were deployed in hotels, as rag pickers, rickshaw pullers and as beggars.
Two such children rescued from Konung Mamang area on July 19 are being kept at the Child Home in Imphal West District.
The Imphal West CWC lodged a FIR case to the Porompat PS.
In a follow up Porompat Police arrested the trio last night under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The trio has been remanded in police custody for 14 days.
