International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed across districts

Bpr/Jir/Tbl/Tpl/Kak/CCpur/Imp, June 26 2019: As observed across the globe, the observance function of 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' was held in different parts of Bishnupur District today.

Moirang Police organized a rally, under the leadership of SP, District Police Bishnupur, Hopson Sapam, against drug and drug-abuse in and around Moirang and also conducted a signature campaign as part of the rally.

The rally was flagged off by SDPO Moirang, Ksh Sivakanta Singh together with OC Moirang, RK Anilkumar Singh.

Various CSOs, Meira Paibi Ima Lup, NCC Cadets, students of Agape Children Jr High School, Ithing, players of Boat House Moirang, members of 'The Loktak Lake Tourism Development CoOperative Society Ltd' took part in the rally which was conducted on 'Walk & Run Against Drugs' .

The rally which saw participation from about 300 people raised slogans like 'wipe out drug menace from Manipur', 'stop taking drugs', 'Let's make better society' and headed for Moirang Lamkhai and passed through Moirang market to reach Ibudhou Thangjing, Moirang through Kumbi road.

From there it return to Moirang market after passing Moirang Kiyam Leikai to culminate at Moirang Police Station.

Speaking to the media person on the sideline of the rally, SDPO Moirang Ksh Sivakanta said active participation from the public is required to uproot the menace of drugs from the state.

OC RK Anilkumar also said that Police alone cannot solve the problem of substance abuse and full cooperation from the public is required to wipe it out completely from the society.

Meanwhile, Kumbi Police conducted a painting competition on the theme "A Healthy Society without Drugs" as part of the observance function of 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' at Kumbi Ibudhou Sandhong Laibung today.

The programme was attended by ZP member, Wangoo-Borayngbi, M Brojen Singh as chief guest; SDPO Moirang Ksh Sivakanta Singh as functional president and Chairperson, Kumbi Municipal Council, W Priyoranjan Singh as guest of honour.

A total of 87 students from 7 schools under the jurisdiction of Kumbi Police including 42 students in Class I-V (Category I) and 45 students in Class VI-X (Category II) took part in the painting competition.

M Tomthinganba Singh of Kumbi Upper Primary School won the 1st position in Category I while Laiphrakpam Urmila Chanu from the same school settled at 2nd position and Kh Lanjensana also from the same school finished at 3rd position.

They were honoured with cash award of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 along with certificate and Instrument Box.

Consolation prize was also distributed to other 7 students with certificate and Instrument Box.

For Category II, Satellite Nongmaithem of Sanatombi Oriental English School secured the 1st position, N Dhanendrajit Singh of Ideal Academy settled at 2nd position and Abinash Konjengbam of Sanatombi Oriental English School finished at 3rd position.

They were also honoured with cash award of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,500 and Rs 2,000 respectively with certificate and Dictionary.

Other 7 students were also encouraged with consolation prize which include certifcate and Dictionary.

On the occasion, MO-incharge, PHC Kumbi, Dr Swarankumar spoke on 'Harmful side-effects of using drugs', 'Different types of drugs and uses' as resource person.

He continued that excessive consumption of alcohol lead to many ailments including liver and brain damage adding that many people died due to liver scirosis at young age.

He also highlighted on the alarming number of alcohol related death reported from Kumbi area including the young people and the presence of high number of alcohol addicted person in the area, which can cause major social problem if not control in time.

Besides alcohol, the youth of the area indulged in different types of drugs such as cocaine, opium, heroine, tablets etc, he added and urged all to stay away from the negative influence of drugs and alcohol for a better and peaceful society.

Zila Parishad member M Brojen Singh and SDPO Ksh Sivakanta Singh also spoke on the occasion.

On the other hand, a painting competition on "Health for Justice, Justice for Health" was also organized by Nambol Police in connection with 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' which was participated by 126 students from 23 schools under the jurisdiction of Nambal Police Station today at Lainingthou Khoriphaba Laibung Community Hall.

The competition was graced by Chairperson, Nambol Municipal Council, Ch Basanta Singh; pradhan Irengbam Gram Panchayat, I Gopen Singh; pradhan, Keinou Gram Panchayat, Ng Sovana Devi and top Police officers.

THOUBAL: Legal Aid Clinic, Yairipok in association with Legal Aid Clinic, Heirok jointly organized "World Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Traffiking" at Icham Khunou Bazar Community Hall while an awareness programme was also held in connection with the day.

The observance function organized under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Service and District Legal Service Authority was attended by SP Thoubal Dr S Ibomcha; Judge, Family Court Thoubal, Salam Imocha; social worker K Jadumani and pradhan, Lourembam Gram Panchayat members.

As part of the function, simple gifts were distributed to the women folks and elders while advocate Th Premila and B Supriya spoke on "Protection from Mob Violence Act 2018", "NALSA Schemes & Drug Abuse" and "Eradication of Drug Menace Scheme 2015" as resource persons.

Speaking at the occasion, Judge, Family Court Thoubal, Salam Imocha said that the public must know about the various rule and law enacted to safeguard the interest of the public.

SP Ibomcha said that the rate of unwanted incident in the State will be reduced drastically if police-public relation is improved and urged the public to have faith in police.

JIRIBAM: Jiribam District Police in association with CSOs of Jiribam observed 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Ema Keithel today.

The observance function was attended by H Bobby Sharma, ADC, Jiribam; AK Sadananda, Addl SP (L/O); S Maniton Singh, Retd Principal, Jiribam Higher Secondary School and S Jiten Singh, Project Co-Ordinator, NIC, Jiribam as presidium members.

IMPHAL: Mayang Imphal Police Station also organized an awareness programme on anti-drug abuse on the occasion of 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' at Khuman Maheikol School, Mayang Imphal today in the presence of about 400 students from different schools under the jurisdiction of Mayang PS .

KAKCHING: In connection with 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2019', Kakching District Police has organized a cycle rally from Hiyanglam to Pallel today.

The cycle rally was held on the theme 'Health for Justice, Justice for Health' from Hiyanglam Police Station to Pallel Bazaar passing through Kakching market.

The rally was participated by Additional SP (LO) Kakching Lunkhomang Khongsai (Mangpu); SDPO Kakching Pukhram Shankar; OC Kakching Police Station (Proby) LT Khongshai; OC Pallel Police Station Heisnam Matumba among others.

TENGNOUPAL: In connection with the observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Tengnoupal district police organised a public rally at border town Moreh today.

The rally marched from Moreh police station and passed through the surrouding area of the border town.

Moreh police SDPO Binoy Chongtham, CDO SDP Th Thomas, CDO OC K Ibungobi, police personnel and leaders of different organisations, NGOs took part in the rally.

CCPUR: The Subsidiary Training Centre of the BSF located at Mualkoi, Churachandpur observed International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking by holding a rally, displaying placards and chanting anti-drug slogans today.

Led by their officers, the border sentinels attended a brief seminar at the conference hall of the centre and later took out a rally streets to raise awareness on anti-drug campaign to the general populace.

The STC BSF organised the rally from 5.30 am till 8 am to spread awareness among the inhabitants of Churachandpur that drug is a menace and that BSF are always there to support the people help root out the menace from the society, said a statement issued by Kamal Kishor, Assistant Commandant (Trg) on behalf of IG STC BSF.
