Mayai Lambi College students lock Principal's office

Students of Mayai Lambi College have locked the Principal's office in protest against the transfer of a teacher from the College, which is currently in the midst of a shortage of teachers, Speaking in this connection, Ichaoba Wairokpam, general secretary, Mayai Lambi College Student's Union has asserted that the Principal's office will remain locked until the transfer order is revoked.
Transferring teachers from a College which is currently dealing with an inadequate number of teaching staff is akin to violating the rights of students, said Ichaoba.
He further explained that three teachers are running the Department of Economics, which was originally supposed to be operated by four educators.
Students of the College had also made appeals to the relevant authority to plug this shortage of teaching staff at the Department.
However, another teacher was transferred from the Department, of Economics, which is very unfortunate for the students, he maintained.
In addition, out of the two remaining teachers, one is bound for retirement within this year.
Expressing his frustration, he questioned how two teachers are supposed to teach a total of approximately 200 students enrolled in the Department.
Adding that the students are opposed to the Principal processing the transfer order, Ichaoba Wairokpam shared that memoranda in this connection will be submitted to the concerned Commissioner, Director and local MLA .
