Imphal, November 25 2018:
A 38 year old woman with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome was successfully operated on and cured at SKY Hospital, Lamphel.
Babina of Khabam, Imphal East developed severe palpitation with pulse-rate of 200/ min (normal average 72/min) while she was visiting her maternal home at Naoremthong, Imphal West and was rushed to a nearby private hospital.
Babina, who was suffering from Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW Syndrome) with Atrioventricular Re-entrant Tachycardia (AVRT), was advised to go outside the State for curative treatment called Electrophysiological Study (EPS) and Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) Therapy.
As the family cannot afford the expenditure of going outside the State for treatment, the patient and her husband approached Chief Minister N Biren Singh for help.
The CM then advised the patient to go to SKY Hospital, for necessary treatment, said a statement of Aribam Romi, PRO, SKY Hospital and Research Centre Pvt Ltd.
Subsequently, Babina was admitted on November 14 at SKY Hospital and underwent the proposed highly specialised and sophisticated operation/procedure called EPS and RFA on November 15, which involved putting in 4 electrical wires called electrodes inside the heart under local anaesthesia, 3 through femoral vein (at the groin level) and 4th one through right internal jugular vein (at the neck level).
"After careful and precision mapping of the electrical activity of the heart, the accessory pathway (in her case - left atrial lateral accessory pathway) was identified and was ablated (destroyed) using Radio Frequency Energy generated from a special energy source outside the patient," said the statement.
The operation began at 11.15 am and completed successfully at 2 pm.
The patient started eating and drinking 2 hours after the procedure.
She was able to walk on November 16 and was discharged on November 17 .
The operation charge, hospital charge, medicines were all provided under CMHT free of cost, informed the statement.
It stated that Dr Lairikyengbam Shyamkishore, Chairman & Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital expressed his satisfaction and happiness on the successful conduction of the highly specialised operation/procedure at SKY Hospital.
He also appreciated N Biren Singh, who advised the patient to go to the hospital.
Dr Shyamkishore appealed people to be aware of the various sophisticated and specialised infrastructure and facilities available at SKY Hospital for operative and non-operative treatment of various complex heart diseases.
