Imphal, November 25 2016: Asian Theatre Festival, a feature of Manipur Sangai Festival 2016 began today at the NT Theatre's playhouse Hongnemshang.

The theatre festival is being held under the aegis of NT Theatre Manipur, Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur and Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

Dr RK Nimai, Consultant, Government of Manipur; Special Secretary Tourism Government of Manipur N Ashokumar and Manipur University of Culture Vice-Chancellor Dr Naorem Khagendra Singh graced the inaugural function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Five theatre troupes from Manipur and outside will stage their plays in the theatre festival.

Manipuri adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's Dakghar, directed by late Heisnam Kanhailal was staged by Kalakshetra Manipur troupe on the opening day.

The theatre festival will be held till November 29.Each day one play will be staged from 4:30 pm.
