Leitambi Loukol farmers appeal

Farmers of 43-Leitambi Loukol (Khongsa Loukol) has appealed to the authorities concemedtolookinto the encroachment and construction of illegal structures in the Leitambi Loukol.
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, Thongam Romila, a patadar of Leitambi Loukol, said that the farmers have been carrying out agricultural activities in the area for ages and they are against any unauthorised construction of structure/houses in the loukol (paddy field).
Highlighting that farm owners of Leitambi Loukol did not give any permission about the construction of houses/ structures in the area, she asserted that the farmers/farm owners are committed to preserving and protecting the loukol and urged all the organisations/lups to not interfere in their efforts.
She mentioned that the attempt to establish a new settlement in the area will have a severe impact on the paddy fields and the farmers who are making their living by carrying out agricultural activities.
She also pointed out an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate, Imphal East District on July 10, 2024 for removal of illegal/unauthorised structures and occupation of Government Khas lands and State lands adjoining the National Highways, State Roads, Inter Village Roads (IVR), river banks and drains.
Further, Romila on behalf of all the farmers appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest and provide their support in protecting the Leitambi Loukol.
