Ukhrul MLA revamps abandon inter-villages PWD road

Ukhrul, August 25 2020:
MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam has taken initiative for restoration of the old and abandoned inter-villages PWD road that connects most villages under Sahamphung block of Kamjong district, stated the headman of Pushing village.
A team of Ukhrul media along with some village elders of Pushing visited the work site to take stock of the ongoing road construction and it's progress.
AS Yanglun, headman of Pushing village, informed that the Ukhrul MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam had taken the initiative for the road construction, after learning the plight of the villagers and transportation hardships endured for many years.
The MLA arranged for 2 excavators and trucks for the purpose and fresh cutting at narrow portion of the road, construction of drainage etc, of more than 3 kms is completed.
Villagers of Pushing also contributed labours for the work.
According to the headman, the road connects Pushing village with the Imphal - Kamjong road from Shingcha junction and named as Public Work Department (PWD) road as the maintenance was done by the department, but it has been neglected for more than 30 years.
Yanglung further mentioned that the abandoned PWD road is a vital inter village road, connect with the block headquarters Sahamphung via Mapum village touching most of the Sambu area villages.
He went on mentioned that the Sambu area villages is one of the most backward villages in State.
He cited past incidents in the area villages where sick persons were carried on foot by the villagers as the area is cut off from vehicular movement in the rainy season.
Villagers face lot of inconveniences during monsoon season, unable to transport essential commodities in time.
The headman appealed the State Government on behalf of the Sambu area villages to develop the inter-villages road and look into the grievances of the rural peoples.
