Imphal, June 25 2013:
Terming the recent killing of six NSCN-K cadres by personnel of 10 Assam Rifles in an alleged fake encounter as 'unfortunate,' MLAs in Manipur State Assembly on Tuesday called for appropriate action against the security personnel involved in the incident.
Heingang constituency MLA N Biren and Chandel constituency MLA Nunghlung Victor raising the issue in the Zero Hour in the House, said the killing of six NSCN-K cadres by troops of 10 AR on June 22 as reported by the media was unfortunate and asked for suitable action against the Assam Rifles personnel.
Saying that the Government cannot take this incident lightly, they urged that proper investigation into the incident must be carried out by the concerned authorities as the NSCN-K is a militant group now in peace talks with the Centre.
N.Biren further said that reports were received recently that a Kuki National Front (KNF) militant who was undertaking treatment in the Kuki Christian Hospital at Dewlaland here after suffering bullet injuries had been taken away by an MLA from the private hospital.
He sought a clarification in the House regarding the report of carrying away an injured cadre of a Kuki outfit from a hospital at Dewlahlane by some MLAs recently and said that the incident has created a wrong impression in the eyes of the public on being politicians so the Home Department should find out this MLA and take action against him.
MLA N Biren went on to say that if the report of that incident was true, then it would be tantamount to breach of privilege of the House.
The MLAs should make a clarification on the incident as it is a disgrace for all members of the House, he averred.
Also demanding an inquiry into Songlung incident, MLA of Chandel Constituency Nunghlung Victor said that the truth must be found out; otherwise the Assam Rifles would be in a habit of carrying out fake encounters.
MLA of Langthabal Constituency Karam Shyam raised the issue of setting up Highway Protection Force along the vulnerable National Highways No.2 and No.37 during the Zero Hour.
He said that the transporters and drivers have taken the right decision to go on cease-work if the Highway Protection Force is not set up soon.
Shyam also drew the attention of other MLAs to take a resolution in the House on setting up of Highway Protection Force.
