Tamenglong says no to faction killings

Tamenglong, June 25 2012: A one day district leaders' consultative meeting was held today at Shekinuh In, Tamenglong.

Organized by District Network Committee, DNC Tamenglong, the event was sponsored by United NGOs Mission Manipur, UNMM.

The leaders who attended the meeting strongly condemned the factional killing in Zeliangrong areas.

After a serious deliberation, the meeting adopted a number of resolutions/ declarations including formation of a forum to impart capacity building to UGs in Tamenglong.

Demanding to stop factional killing in Zeliangrong areas at once, the meeting decided not to give any sort of cooperation if the UGs did not pay attention to the public voice.

The meeting also resolved not to take/ recover the dead body from the encounter site, if the factional killing continued in the near future.

Regarding taxation, the leaders' meet resolved to form one committee to have social audit of the UGs operating in Tamenglong district.

The organizing committee regretted over low participation in the consultative meeting today.

In the meantime, Village Authority Council Longmai Area convened a public convention at Longmai (Noney) Community hall around 10 am today.

The convention strongly condemned factional killings in the Longmai area and resolved to maintain peace and harmony in the area.

The convention also decided not to support or give cooperation to any Naga factions if factional killings do not stop.

However, the public convention resolved that the people of the areas will continue to support the ongoing Naga peace process and any faction who works for the development of the area.

Furthermore, the public convention resolved to form a Joint Action Committee to look into the prevailing situation in the area.

As many as six hundred people including church leaders, Women leaders, Youth leaders, etc attended the public convention.
