Candlelight vigil

Imphal, September 24 2021:
Several Congress members staged a candlelight vigil at the western gate of Kangla Fort today demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai, advisor and former president of Zeliangrong Baudi.
The demonstration was organised by Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) and National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Manipur.
Placards that read "Justice for Athuan Abonmai'' and "Unjust Law is not a Law at all" were used during the demonstration.
Later, a team of Imphal West police rushed to the area.
The police extinguished the candlelight, snatched the placards and pushed the demonstrators back till Congress Bhavan.
Speaking to media persons, MPCC general secretary Amin Shah condemned the police for its alleged 'excesses'.
He also said that protests will be staged in different districts until justice is delivered to the bereaved family.
The MPCC also launched an online campaign #Justice for Abonmai.
In online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, a sea of social media users posted their condemnation against the 'brutal torture and killing of Athuan Abonmai" under the campaign #Justice for Abonmai.
It may be mentioned that Athuan Abonmai was abducted from Apollo ground, Tamenglong district Headquarters on September 22 in front of security personnel.
His mortal remains have been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
