Informing that 1,25,832 people, out of 3 lakh citizens who are above 18 years in Imphal East district have been administered Covid-19 vaccine till June 23, Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana stated that the vaccination programme will continue until the target set for the vaccination is achieved.
Speaking to media persons at her office chamber on Thursday, Diana informed that the district administration successfully conducted mass testing and vaccination programme for two weeks in almost all the assembly constituencies under Imphal East district so as to contain the spread of the infectious Covid-19.Furthermore, mass vaccination commenced from June 21 in every constituency of the district, she added.
The ongoing vaccination programme is being conducted under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer, Imphal East at JNIMS hospital and other health centres.
Out of 3 lakh people who are above 18 years of age and are eligible for vaccination, 1.25 lakh people have been administered Covid vaccine so far.
The mass vaccination drive is being sustained so as to cover the remaining 1.75 lakh people, Diana maintained.
In addition to the vaccination programme conducted earlier in several centres, ten additional vaccination sites have been selected for continuation of the inoculation programme, she said and commended the MLAs concerned for extending all possible help in the vaccination drive.
The deputy commissioner reiterated that the programme will continue until the target is achieved.
Exhorting those who are yet to get the vaccine to inoculate themselves at the earliest, Diana stated that activities related to contact tracing, sampling/testing, home isolation team and Covid Care Centre team set up in Standard College are being reviewed.
People should remember the saying 'Prevention is better than cure', she added.
Highlighting that the district administration along with district health society is organising sensitisation programme to make the public aware about the benefits of vaccination, Diana urged the people not to believe in the rumours being spread against Covid vaccine.
The BLOs have been collecting the data of those who are yet to get the vaccine through EROs.
Meeting with religious leaders have also been convened to make sure that the vaccination drive achieves its set target, she added.
