Training for NCD programme managers kick starts

A training programme on National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) kicked started at Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat today.
State Mission Director, NHM Manipur, N Bandana Devi, while underlining the importance of making Manipur an NCD-free State, stated that the three days training programme will empower programme managers to plan for better and effective implementation and monitoring of diseases like cancer, diabetes, hypertension screening apart from treatment for all people above 30 years of age.
She was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of training programme.
Briefing the session, N Bandana Devi said that NPCDCS programmes were launched in the State in the year 2015 at nine districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul & Tamenglong which have now expanded to the seven new districts since 2017 December.
Highlighting the significance of IEC activities in raising awareness about the risk of obesity, smoking, sedentary life and alcohol which leads to non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancer etc, she explained that the district NCD clinics have special facilities for treating such diseases by giving proper counselling, physiotherapy, free medicine & laboratory test.
She further informed the trainees by stating that until March 2017, 1,34,364 individuals have been screened for NCD, out of which 17,958 were suffering from diabetes while 23,613 and 1101 belong to hypertension and heart cases respectively.
While, 398 cancer patients and 151 stroke-suffering persons have also been enrolled in the programme, she added.
"The ASHAs will be taking up household visits to every home and utilize a checklist for NCD and will further refer to ANM of PHSC with linkage to PHC", she said.
Meanwhile, Dr K Rajo pointed out that the main objective of today's programme is to promote the management of NPCDCS and added that proper capacity building and training exercise are important to achieve the set target.
Dr Chinmoyee Das said that the NCD programme is gaining momentum while adding that the programme manager should follow the three roles i.e., planning, implementation and monitoring keeping in mind the limitation of resources and budget.
Dr Das, Professor AK Brogen, HOD Community Medicine, RIMS, Dr Pradeep Joshi, National Professional Officer, WHO and Dr Y Premchand, State Nodal Officer, NPCDCS are faculties of the training programme.
DNO of NCD, Epidemiologists, APMs of NCD of 17 districts of Manipur took part in the programme.
The function was attended by Dr K Rajo, Director Health Services as president, Dr Chinmoyee Das, DADG, Dte, GHS, MoHFW, Govt of India and Dr L Ashananda Singh, Regional Director, MoHFW as guests of honour.
The training programme was organised by the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur in collaboration with the State Health Society, Manipur.
