ILP Demand: Attempt to storm Assembly by students foiled

Imphal, July 22 2014:
Stiff confrontation between the students and the State police personnel was witnessed today in Imphal when the former attempted to storm into the Manipur Assembly which is in session.
The police have to resort to tear gas shelling injuring a student in the protest.
The students were demanding immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in the state.
Under the banner of students' wing of Joint Co-ordination on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), a large number of students from C.C.Higher Secondary School, Pioneer Academy, International Modernised Academy, Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School and Brilliant Academy located both in Imphal West and Imphal East districts took out two separate rallies and attempted to storm into the Assembly that was in session demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit System.

One rally was foiled by a large number of security force personnel at Checkon area while the other rally was stopped near the Fly-Over in the heart of Imphal.
During the confrontations, students pelted stones at the police while the security force personnel resorted to tear gas shelling resulting in injury of a CC Higher School student studying in Class-XI (Arts).
The injured student is identified as Y Pravin.
After a long confrontation at Checkon area, the students were dispersed.
The students from CC Higher Secondary School later confined themselves in their class rooms but furious over the manner the police had dealt with them, they took out some furniture and set on fire in front of the school.
The police on learning the incident rushed to the CC Higher Secondary School and there another face-off was witnessed.
The students pelted stones at the police from inside the school campus.
Later in the afternoon, Imphal East district superintendent of police Angam Kamei intervened in the CC Higher Secondary School incident.
There have been reports of protest over the Inner Line Permit issue in Thoubal district as well.
