Mohapatra sworn-in acting CJ of Manipur HC

Imphal, October 21 2013: Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra, a former judge of the Allahabad High Court, was sworn-in as a judge of Manipur High Court today.

Governor Ashwani Kumar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Mohapatra during an impressive function held at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan here.

Official sources said that Justice Mohapatra would function as acting Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court till the appointment of a full time Chief Justice.

The development has come about after the former Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Abhay M Sapre was transferred as Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Justice N Kotiswar, former Gauhati High Court Judge K Manisana, Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and other top civil and police officials were also present during the today's swearing in ceremony.

Talking to media persons after the swearing-in ceremony, Mohapatra said that he will work for the welfare of the people and assured speedy justice to them.

He also expressed happiness on becoming one of the Judges of Manipur High Court.

However, he admitted that he has not yet gone through all the cases that are pending in different courts in the state.
