Senapati, July 21 2014:
The United Naga Council (UNC) said the decision of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the injury of Khangembam Bigyanik during an ambush which killed a member of the ADC, Ukhrul on July 12 to impose a 36-hour bandh along Ukhrul road nothing but communal.
"While our sympathies are with Bigyanik and his unfortunate situation, the targeting of Nagas in Ukhrul for the non fulfillment of the demands made by All Manipur Light Vehicle Owner's and Owner Driver's Union in this connection has no justification," the UNC added.
"The communal action of militarization of Ukhrul district headquarter by the Government of Manipur is under protest from the Naga people.
The additional dose of communal intent heaped upon Ukhrul in the guise of pressurizing the State Government is not missed and hence condemned," the UNC statement further said.
The UNC then strongly condemned the killing of Akha Salouni of Tungjoy village on July 20, 2014 at Kotla Mubarak, Delhi.
The murder, rape, assault, humiliation and discrimination of our people and from the North East, staying in Delhi and other metropolis for study or employment is unabated in spite of the assurances of the concerned Government and Authorities, it said.
The life, security and safety of the people, irrespective of their place of origin or race cannot be secured with assurances alone and the concerned authorities must roll up its sleeves and deliver what is due.
"We reach out to the bereft family of late Salouni with our heartfelt condolence and pray for that God will grant them the strength to bear the great loss.
May his soul rest in peac", the UNC note stated.
