Workshop on GI tagged Chak Hao and Kachai Lemon held

A one-day "State-level workshop and user authorization drive for NERAMAC's Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products" (Chak Hao and Kachai Lemon) was organised by the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC) at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong today.
The workshop was held under the aegis of the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India.
The event was graced by Commodore Rajiv Ashok (retd), Managing Director, NERAMAC; Partha Mandal, General Manager/OIC, NABARD Manipur Regional Office and Potshangbam Devakanta, National Awardee under PPVFRA (2012) Imphal, Manipur as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Mangsatabam Imo Meetei, Deputy Manager & Zonal in-charge, NERAMAC, said that user authorization of Chak Hao and Kachai Lemon will help identify where and which farmers are cultivating these GI tagged products.
The authorization/certification is valid for 10 years and the farmers can apply for renewal from time to time.
He added that the workshop was organised with the goal of promoting the users/farmers engaged in cultivation of GI tagged products in Manipur.
Additionally, Anjal Kumar Dutta, Deputy General Manager, NERAMAC delivered a presentation on "Importance of GI Registration Tagging and GI Authorization" .
More than 100 fanners from Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Ukhrul and Jiribam participated in the workshop.
