Discussion on conservation of pony held

The Centre for Manipur Studies, Manipur University has organised a round table discussion on "Conservation of Manipuri Pony" on January 19.Members of MHRPA and AMPA along with players and vets from USA, Argentina, Kenya, Canada and Ambassador of Argentina as well as academicians from agriculture and animal husbandry, research scholars and faculty members participated in the discussion, said a statement of Vijaylakshmi Brara, Associate Professor, Centre for Manipur Studies, MU today.
The members discussed the need for strict implementation of State policy on conservation of pony at ground level and called for mapping of grazing fields which are safe and accessible.
School curriculum needs to include the knowledge on Manipuri polo as well as educate and sensitise the cultural heritage surrounding the game, the members opined said the statement.
The discussion also highlighted several factors that lead to death of ponies such as food poisoning, road accident & diseases and called for measures to counter and control such deaths.
