Imphal, September 19 2024:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has raised strong objection to the remark of union home minister Amit Shah on delaying border fencing work in Kuki inhabited border areas, as quoted by Newsl8.COCOMI called it ludicrous policy and nonsensical given the current situation in the state.
In a statement, COCOMI said that people of Manipur waited eagerly for the completion of first 100 days of the 3rd term of Modi-led NDA government at the centre as the party had assured of bringing solution to the crisis in Manipur within 100 days.
There have been numerous evidences of infiltration of illegal immigrant Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from Myanmar into the state and exacerbating the crisis and intensifying their assault against the Meetei and the state.
Neither the state government nor the Central government can ignore these evidences.
While exploring ways to resolve the crisis, sealing the border, especially those areas in Kuki inhabited areas to prevent further influx of foreign Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists and flushing them out is essential.
Unfortunately, the Central government is giving more focus on Naga inhabited areas, which is not posing any immediate threat, COCOMI said, while calling the move of the Central government as a step against the aspiration of the people and the state.
The fact that Centre would delay border fencing in Kuki inhabited areas underscores unwillingness to end the crisis but to prolong it further.
The proxy war being waged by the Government of India to suppress the Meetei community and destroy unity, identity and integrity of Manipur is becoming clearer day by day.
Only if the Central government regards the people of Manipur as its bona-fide citizens, it would have started the border fencing with full speed from the Kuki inhabited areas, the statement said.
At the same time, updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to detect and deport illegal immigrants would pave way for resolving the crisis.
Instead of taking up such decisive measures, the steps being taken up are against the very essence of resolving the crisis as everybody knows that the current policy would only prolong the crisis, maintained the statement.
Further claiming that there have been multiple evidences of complicity of Assam Rifles in the current crisis and their inclination towards the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, COCOMI noted that people of the state are not satisfied with the replacement of just two battalions of Assam Rifles as the demand is pulling out all the AR units and deploying other neutral central forces.
Moreover, COCOMI cautioned of intense public movement if the Centre fails to take up border fencing in Kuki inhabited areas promptly and replace all the remaining AR units from the state at the earliest.
