Massive sit-in protest in CCpur demands withdrawal of Govt Bills

Churachandpur, September 19 2015 :
Agitation demanding withdrawal of the three bills passed by Manipur Assembly on August 31, 2015 and punishment to the police personnel involved in the killing of nine tribal people continued in Churachandpur district on Saturday.
JAC Women Wing of Churachandpur staged a sit-in protest and later formed a human chain spreading from Kangvai to Churachandpur District Hospital.
The agitators also observed a one-minute silence in memory of the nine persons killed by the State forces.
The agitation was jointly organised by the Joint Action Committee, Churachandpur, Women Wing and Joint Philanthropic Organisanisation,Churachandpur.

JAC Chief Convener H Mangchinkhup said the people of the hill districts strongly oppose the three bills.
"Now that when we bury our nine tribal martyrs, we will come out with a stronger opposition against the anti-tribal bills.
He further urged the Government to stop neglecting people's demand by adopting delay tactics until there is killing ," he said.
Taking a week's time just for the formation of a Drafting Committee is akin to showing disrespect to the public movement, he said.
Several local leaders also spoke against the bills during the protest.
Agitators also shouted slogans demanding withdrawal of the bills and action against the police personnel involved in the killing of the nine tribal people.
They also shouted that 'there is no peace in Manipur.' JAC Women Wing and local youth clubs of New Lamka area also staged a sit-in protest near Rayburn College and later took out a rally from New Lamka to Lamka Police Station.
During the demonstration, the protesters demanded amendment to the Constitution, if it is required in withdrawing the three bills in the State Assembly.
The JAC Woman Wing also staged sit-in protests at several places.
Residents in various parts of the district formed groups to halt traffic movement along Imphal-Churachandpur road.
At New Bazar too, women vendors of the market staged a sit-in-protest wearing black badges.
They demanded cancellation of the three bills and punishment to those security personnel who were responsible for the death of nine tribal people.
Similar protests were also held at Mata, New Lamka and many other areas.
Hundreds of women also staged a sit-in-protest at Central Lamka demanding withdrawal of MLR&LR Act from Manipur's hill districts.
