Ukhrul, November 18 2020:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has condemned the culture of posting officer in-charge and District Level Officers (DLOs) not stationed in Ukhrul district.
TNL president Hopingson A Shimray in a press briefing held on November 16 at Ukhrul stated that the offices in Ukhrul are all paralysed due to the non-stationed DLOs and conventional practice of posting officer in-charge as temporary arrangements.
He added that at least seven departments of the district (PHED, Minor Irrigation, DTO, Election Department, Exchange office, ICDS, Block office) are paralysed as none of the officers concerned are stationed in the district.
The culture and the practice of additional work allotment to a particular officer as in-charge has burdened them and made them unable to discharge satisfactory services to the public on most occasions.
The SDO, Ukhrul besides Ukhrul Block is also looking after the affairs of LM Block and District Election Department as his additional charge.
The DPO, Ukhrul is given charge of three districts namely Ukhrul, Kamjong and Tengnoupal.
The centralised style of running the office is one of the main factors that create rifts between the hill and valley people.
There have been no Additional District Magistrate for more than six months, while Ukhrul, Transport Office is yet to resume service.
Registration, renewal and issue of driving licence have been put on hold since the Covid-19 lockdown.
TNL urged the State Government, Ministers and department authority for immediate intervention to resolve the problems of the district.
