20,000 people to be employed under Seri Proj Phase-II

Imphal, November 17 2013:
The Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of Directorate of Sericulture, Manipur Ch Harendrakumar has announced that the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India has approved the implementation of Sericulture Project Phase-II which aims to provide employment to more than 20,000 people in the State.
He was speaking during the inaugural function of a state level workshop on the implementation of sericulture schemes organized by Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Manipur at the Project Management Complex, Sangaipat here today.
OSD Harendrakumar further said that the Sericulture Project Phase-I was taken up with financial assistance from Japan.
However, the present law and order situation of the State has compelled the Japanese officials to stay out of the Phase-II.
The total cost of the Sericulture Project is Rs.291 crores.
The project is expected to provide employment to more than 20,000 people in the State, he noted.
The inaugural function of the workshop was attended by the President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) Wangkhemcha Shyamjai as Chief Guest and Director of Sericulture H Ginjamang Simte as President, while Joint Secretary (Tech) of Central Silk Board Sarat Deori attended as Guest of Honour.
