Agartala, January 17 2021: The first foundation day celebration of Major Chongtha Mia Memorial Library, Tripura and Takhel Thang-Ta Academy was observed today.

The celebration held at Santipara Toropokpi in Mohanpur Sub-Division was opened by local MLA Krishnadhan Das (Bamutia Assembly Constituency) as the chief in the presence of Thang-Ta teacher, Th Samarendra as functional president.

Attending the function as special guests were RK Tarunjit, joint editor of the 'Marup', a Manipuri weekly published , from Agartala; Padma Debbarman, Sanjit Das, Pinto Bhattachariya.

Other eminent figures who attended the event were Elangbam Manganjao, Khaidem Polash Singha, Phurailatpam Dinamani, Bimal Singh etc.

Thang-Ta teacher Samarendra spoke on the historical and cultural significance of Thang-Ta, a martial art form indigenous to Manipuris during the function.

Various cultural programmes were also presented at the occasion.
