Imphal, January 17 2020:
A 7 member team led by Dominic Mao, PhD (Lecturer, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard) had a candid interaction with Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the latter's office chamber today.
Dominic Mao grew up in Imphal before moving to the United States for his PhD in 2007 .
The team is here in the State to conduct Harvard's Program for Scientifically Inspired Leadership (PSIL) at St Paul's Retreat House, Mantripukhri from January 14 to 18 .
PSIL brings together three separate groups of students to create the PSIL community ie Harvard undergraduates, prospective teachers in the State and high school students from various schools in Manipur.
While high school students are developing leadership skills, Harvard undergraduates and prospective teachers from Manipur are learning how to be effective teachers.
By interacting with one another, all three groups will gain a deeper understanding of teaching and learning as well as expand their world views as they share experiences with people from many different backgrounds.
An important component of the program is cultural immersion, where the Harvard team learn about the history and culture of Manipur by visiting various sites with the teaching team from Manipur.
While interacting with the team, N Biren informed them about State's salubrious climate and unique flora and fauna including rare Sangai and largest freshwater lake in the North East, Loktak.
He also invited the team to the 5th Statehood Women's (International) Polo Tournament currently underway at Mapal Kangjeibung.
