Minister urges nurses to fulfil duties diligently, understand sentiments of patients

The purpose of being in a nursing profession is only fulfilled when a nurse is able to carry out necessary responsibilities towards patient(s) throughout his/her stay.
CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam made this statement as the chief guest while attending the lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony for 10th batch of BSc Nursing (first year), College of Nursing, RIMS today.
The Minister continued that a person is successful in life when he embraces satisfaction in his profession.
He maintained that a person in nursing profession should be able to handle patients, understand their pain, sentiments and be there for them throughout the treatment process.
Principal, College of Nursing RIMS Professor H Jamuna said that the lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony was carried out before the nurses head for direct patient care.
She further stated that nurses should give a ray of hope to all the unwell patients, who suffer mentally and physically.
Conveying that College of Nursing RIMS has bagged many achievements since 2009 till date, she continued that around 350 alumni of the college have successfully acquired jobs across the country and abroad.
Meanwhile, many passed out students are pursuing PGs at prestigious colleges/universities in the country.
Following the unfortunate fire at College of Nursing girls hostel in April last year, a new hostel has been constructed and proper accommodation has been provided to students under the leadership of RIMS Director and administration, she narrated.
The construction of a new building of Nursing College RIMS is also completed and the students will be shifted to the new infrastructure soon, she assured.
Conveying that two contract nursing tutors and one contact lecturer of sociology have been recruited, she expressed that the college will function more smoothly than before.
Director RIMS Professor A Santa, Medical Superintendent RIMS Professor Ch Arunkumar and Dean, School of Medical Sciences MU and Professor, Department of Microbiology RIMS Dr Kh Sulochana were present at the ceremony.
In another separate event, a capping and lamp lighting ceremony for the 22nd batch of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) and 9th batch of BSc Nursing of RDO College of Nursing was held at the college auditorium today.
College Development Council, Manipur University Director Th Ratan Kumar graced the function as the chief guest while RDO Lamdeng general secretary W Brajabidhu attended the functional president.
JNIMS former Nursing Superintendent P Landhoni, JNMIS Deputy Nursing Superintendent M Jivanlata and RDO Lamdeng joint secretary P Sumati attended the function as guests of honour.
After GNM Nursing students performed the opening song, the oath taking ceremony was administered by GNM Principal N Rinabai.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Th Ratan Kumar said that RDO college, among other nursing institutes, have become a prestigious nursing college and it can also become an eminent nursing institute in the North East or across the country.
He said that nursing is a noble profession which requires immense dedication and generosity while adding that the profession also require nurses to show loving care and sentiments towards patients.
