Hemolata bags craft award

Longjam Hemolata of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Chabungbam Leikai is now the 21 st Manipuri native who has won the National Award given by the Ministry of Textiles to selected master crafcs persons.
This was announced by Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Assistant Director T Rolee Vareishim.
Hemolata has been conferred the prestigious award for her artistic works of producing Khamen Chatpa dhotis through hand embroidery.
Hemolata was handed over the prestigious award by President Pranab Mukheijee during glittering function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on December 9.The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a memento.
Twenty other Manipur artisans have won the same award in the past.
These awardees would be given Rs 24,000 as monthly pension by the Ministry of Textiles as soon as they cross 60 years, Rolee said.
