Imphal, June 15 2012:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has decided to refrain from participation in the United Naga Council (UNC) sponsored bandh, which is to be effective from 16th June midnight till 18th June.
According to a statement issued by its Joint Secretary David Kamei, the decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the Front held at its head office today.
Accordingly, necessary instructions have been intimated to all the ZYF zonal offices in different districts of Manipur.
The statement explained that the decision to refrain from participation and involvement in the bandh is to express disagreement with the UNC arbitrary decision taken without ZYF being given opportunity to express views and opinions although ZYF is one of the frontal organizations of the UNC.
The ZYF, all these while and in the larger interest of the Nagas, have been fully involved in all activities relating to Naga issues without having any reservation and hesitation considering it as utmost responsibilities despite the fact that UNC failed to provide space for ZYF in the past occasions.
However, the silent maintained by the ZYF is ignored and leaving aside ZYF has became almost regular practice for the UNC which can be considered it as intentional and deliberate act, as suchthe ZYF is compelled to refrain from the said bandh.
Any consequenceswhich may be resulted by the bandh is not related to ZYF, the statement added.
