Thousands hail Naga Accord in Chandel

Thousands of people from all walks of life participated in a peace rally organized by Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC).
The rally was organised to welcome the Naga Peace Accord signed on August 3 and also to register people's protest against the three bills passed by the Manipur State Legislative Assembly on August 31 .
Before the rally commenced at the District Headquarters, a public meeting at the Playground of Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, Japhou observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to those who were killed in the Churachandpur while protesting against the three bills.

UNC President Gaidon Kamei; Committee For Alternative Arrangement's Vice President Ashinpou Gangmei; CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal and other Naga leaders including Vice President of Naga Women Union Manipur Shumsot Khular shared their views on the Naga Peace Accord.
They spelt out the reasons for opposing the three bills by the tribal communities.
The public meeting also condemned the alleged statement made by Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit Singh on the floor of the Assembly which mentioned that there were "no Nagas in Manipur" and the subsequent boycott imposed on him in Naga areas for the statement.
After the meeting, the rally proceeded toward the Office Complex of Deputy Commissioner, Chandel.
A memorandum was submitted to Prime Minister of India and Governor of the State through SDO Chandel and Machi Julie Daryal Anal.
Around 5,000 people representing civil society organisations, village chiefs, Church leaders and students participated in the rally.
The rally participants held several placards which read ""We welcome the peace Accord", "Respect Tribal Rights, Oppose the infamous 3 bills", "Naga integration is a must for final solution", etc.
