Imphal, November 13 2024:
Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani on Wednesday said that it is the duty & responsibility of the Government to bring an end to the prolonged conflict which has been going on for more than 19 months, if the Government is unable to fulfill its responsibility then the people should rise up and stop supporting the MLAs/Ministers.
Addressing a press conference today at his residence in Loklaobung, Khaidem Mani said that the conflict which began on May 3, 2023 has escalated beyond control.
He claimed that there is complete anarchy in Manipur and the Government is struggling hopelessly to establish semblance of authority.
He lamented the division of MLAs on community lines as Kuki MLAs, Naga MLAs and Meitei MLAs, and asked whether some people/groups with vested interest are behind the division.
He continued that it is rather deplorable that the State Government has failed to exert its authority and maintain any form of law & order in Churachandpur, Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi districts of Manipur.
"Such lawlessness has posed a grave threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur", he added.
He asserted that if the Kukis want Separate Administration they should demand the same from the Central Government, they will not get their Separate Administration by killing innocent civilians & burning down houses belonging to the Meitei community.
Khaidem Mani demanded that the State Government and Central Government should take immediate & concrete action to end the prolonged conflict and protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Furthermore, Khaidem Mani said that if the State Government is unable to end the conflict, all the MLAs should stop supporting the State Government and rush together to Delhi, and pressure the Central Government to take immediate action to bring peace in Manipur.
