Imphal, April 13 2019:
Campaigning for RK Ranjan, Keishamthong BJP Mandal has organised a political convention at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak yesterday.
Veteran politician Meinam Bhorot, Shiv Sena president and Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) convenor M Tombi, AAP president Th Manihar, MDA convenor Khogen and BJP leader RK Shivchandra attended the event.
Speaking at the event about the contentious CAB, M Tombi said that the Citizenship Act 1955 was amended many times during the Congress rules.
The proposed CAB mentioned in the BJP manifesto is an amendment which will provide citizenship to persons of minority religions facing religious prosecution, he said and added that people of the State need to study and understand the contents of the Bill before judging.
During the BJP led rule, the country and the State is advancing and developing like never before, he said appealing the people to support the party and vote for its candidate RK Ranjan in the Inner Parliamentary election on April 18 .
It may be mentioned that CAB seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan facing religious prosecution and the Bill is seen by many as a threat to the identity, culture and existence of the indigenous people of the North-East States.
