Imphal, February 13 2025:
The Manipur Home Guard Employees' Welfare Association (MHGEWA) has urged the State Government to comply with the directives issued by the Manipur High Court regarding the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Home Guard personnel to 39 percent.
Addressing a press conference today at the association's office in Luwangsangbam, MHGEWA president Y Mangi recalled that the Manipur Government has hiked the Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief payable to State Government employees/pensioners/family pensioners from the existing rate of 32% to 39% (7% increase) of the basic pay/pension.
He lamented that despite repeated appeals to the Government to increase the DA, Home Guards were excluded from the Manipur Government Employee List whose DA were increased to 39 percent.
"In this regard, a petition was filed before the Manipur High Court on February 9, 2025.Consequently, the Court on February 11, 2025 directed the Government to give a report on the reason for exclusion of Home Guards within four weeks", he added.
Highlighting the role and contributions of Home Guards who have been assigned myriad of duties in assisting police and maintaining law & order, Y Mangi asserted that Home Guard personnel don't get their DA in full apart from not getting ration money.
Furthermore, Y Mangi appealed to the Government to acknowledge the contributions of Home Guards and increase the DA to 39 percent like other State Government employees.
