Imphal, April 12 2013 :
Denouncing alleged insistence by authorities of Shishu Nishta Niketan (SNN) that each transporter deposit Rs 4500 for/from 2013-14 academic session, All Manipur School Students' Transporter Association has asked the school authorities to review the latter's stand failing with student transporters would cease service.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Association secretary general Y Sunder Singh declared that transporters engaged in ferrying students would stop carrying school children in case SNN authorities do not withdraw the order for mandatory deposit of Rs 4500 within
April 25 .
According to the secretary a total of 41 vehicles are being engaged in transportation of SNN students since establishment of the educational institution.
Explaining that the transport operators have their own families to look after inspite of the meagre monthly income from ferrying the students, Sunder expressed that depositing the said amount in order to obtain 'transport approval card' from the SNN authorities is not only unjustifiable but not affordable.
Apart from engagement in transporting the students to earn a decent living the school authorities should remember that transport operators are serving the future pillars of the society, highlighted the Association functionary who also urged students as well as civil society organisations to probe non-academic activities of various educational institutions.
He further alleged that most private schools are levying excessive amount under the garb of school fees thereby transforming educational institutions into a business venture of handful of individuals.
