International Women's Day celebrated

International Women's Day was celebrated at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound on Wednesday to honour women's achievements and advocate for gender equality.
The celebration was organised by the Women Committee of United NGO's Mission Manipur (UNM-M), Chingmeirong under the global theme, "Accelerate Action" and local theme, "Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Women's Day" .
The event was graced by dignitaries, including DM College of Arts, DM University, former Principal, Ch Sheelaramani; All Tribal Women Organisation (ATWO) president, Moikham Ronglo; UNM-M vice chairman, U Nobokishore; Convenor Imphal West, DWC, S Radhapyari; senior journalist Ng Liklai Leima and Manipur University, Department of Law, Head, Y Premananda.
Speaking on the occasion, Women Committee of UNM-M convenor Sobita Mangsatabam said that the committee has been celebrating International Women's Day every year at various location across the State to acknowledge the achievements of women throughout the history, raise awareness about gender inequality & discrimination, and promote gender equality and women's empowerment.
"This year, we are celebrating International Women's Day with women who are victims of violence & abuse from across the State and women displaced by the ongoing conflict", she added.
She continued that to empower the victims, products made by these women are being displayed at the event.
Expressing concern over the crimes committed against women during the ongoing conflict, Sobita Mangsatabam appealed to the Governor to take necessary steps to protect the rights and dignity of women and children of Manipur.
