Three time Chief Minister of Nagaland and sitting Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) was declared winner from Northern Angami-II Assembly Constituency by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Abhjit Sinha this afternoon following the withdrawal of his opponent Chupfuo Angami of the Naga People's Front (NPF), reports NNN.
Interestingly, Neiphiu Rio is the Chief Ministerrial candidate of NDPP.
NDPP and BJP are sharing seats in the ensuing Assembly election of Nagaland.
The NDPP has fielded 40 candidates while the BJP has fielded 20 .
With today's development, Nagaland will go to the polls in 59 Assembly Constituencies on February 27 .
Meanwhile, the total number of candidates withdrawn is 32 .
Today was the last date to withdraw candidature.
With this development, the total number of contesting candidates stands at 195 .
It can be mentioned that altogether 257 candidates filed nomination papers while 29 papers were declared invalid.
